Opportunities for students to participate in school wide decision-making is highly valued at Cranbourne East Primary School. This opportunity is provided to students through the Student Representative Council.
Student representatives from Year 2 – Year 6 are elected to the SRC by their peers. The students prepare campaign posters and deliver election speeches on voting day, which is conducted with the support of the Electoral Commission.
Student Leaders participate in a training program that sees them learn skills that will assist them in their role. Some of the skills covered in their training include formal meeting procedures, public speaking and event planning. The SRC also organises and participates in numerous events throughout the school year such as:
- Free Dress days for the Starlight Foundation, Royal Children’s Hospital and other charities
- “Lunchtime Trivia” competitions during Literacy and Numeracy Week
- Selling the Anzac Day and Remembrance Day Poppies and attending the ANZAC Day Student Service
- Conducting student surveys
